Depression

If depression were a product the slogan would be “why bother?”

Currently more than 10% of our society suffers with depression, with sufferers becoming younger and younger every year. It is estimated only 25% of people with depression seek help.
People who are depressed think there is no point in asking for help – there is. While it would be unrealistic for anyone to expect to feel on top of the world everyday, and it is part of our normal range of emotions to sometimes feel down or blue from time to time. However if you have a long standing problem that gets you down you may find you end up with two problems. The original one and depression!
Currently more than 10% of our society suffers from depression.

Depression is often a further symptom of anxiety and often comes after a breakdown.

To treat depression we need to change the behaviour that lead to that state:

Symptoms of Depression. These can include ~

  • Loss of appetite
  • Inability to sleep
  • Loss of pleasure in life
  • Feeling overwhelmed
  • Feeling hopeless
  • Feeling lethargic
  • Suicidal thoughts (in extreme forms)

There are three types of Depression.

  • Reactive Depression: Example ~ It is quite natural to feel depressed over the death of a loved one, or a pet or being made redundant from your work and similar situations and this is called reactive depression because you are reacting to a situation. This type of depression is readily treated with Hypnotherapy

  • Clinical Depression: This is a more long standing depression due to negative thought patterns and often involving low self esteem. This type of depression also responds well to cognitive behavioural therapy under Hypnosis

  • Bi – Polar Depression: This is a chemical imbalance and usually requires medication. This condition is not directly changeable with hypnosis, but the knock on effects eg loss of confidence and low self esteem can be helped in this way.
